About the project

In one of the Europe’s most famous retail department stores, MICC has been installed to protect the many visitors each day from the spread of fire, and to protect the famous store itself. A building that was founded in 1849, Harrods can also be classed as national heritage. Harrods is a store that occupies a 5-acre site and has 330 departments covering 1.1 million sq ft (100,000 m2) of retail space. Critical circuits need to function for extended periods due to evacuation time for large buildings with many floors and there is a high chance these buildings will be densely populated at the time.

Mineral Insulated Copper Cables (MICC) can maintain circuit integrity in temperatures exceeding 950C for over three hours. The unique construction means it does not aid flame spread, releases zero acidic or toxic smoke or gases. MICC does not use any polymers or tapes to aid fire protection and does not require conduit to assist mechanical protection.
